10 Ways Self-Care Changed My Life as a Mom

For the past 12 years, I have been intentionally practicing self-care every day, doing things such as moving my body, journaling, reading the Bible and personal development books, meditating, and more recently using a “happy light” and getting massages. Engaging in regular self-care has transformed my life in many ways and in today’s post, I’d like to share with you ten ways self-care has positively influenced my life.. 

Self-Care Improved My Physical Well-Being

Increased Energy and Vitality:

  • Embarking on the self-care path, I discovered the incredible boost it provided to my energy levels. From conquering a half marathon to becoming a Zumba instructor, embracing Insanity workouts, walking, and hitting the gym, each step fueled a newfound vitality.

Improved Sleep Habits:

  • Prioritizing good sleep hygiene became a game-changer, transforming me into a morning person. By steering clear of screens 30 minutes before bedtime, adopting a relaxed evening routine, and savoring the serenity of rest, I now sleep like a baby. Enhanced Physical Health:

  • Witnessing significant weight loss through self-care practices was an empowering experience. However, life's twists and turns taught me the importance of consistency, especially during the busy phases. 

Stress Reduction:

  • Navigating stressful times, I realized the necessity of self-care and space. Engaging in mindfulness and relaxation exercises became my anchor, prompting self-check-ins and facilitating stress reduction.

Boosted Immune System:

  • Self-care practices emerged as guardians of my immune system, resulting in rare bouts of illness and a quicker bounce back when needed. "Mom can't get sick" became a testament to the resilience nurtured through self-care.

Self-Care Boosted My Mental and Emotional Well-Being

Mental Clarity and Focus:

  • Journaling, meditation, and intentionally slowing down significantly improved my mental clarity and focus. The ripple effect led to heightened productivity and a newfound ability to navigate life's challenges.

Emotional Resilience:

  • Exploring emotional resilience, self-care instigated a shift towards less judgment and more realistic expectations. Bridging "the gap" and cultivating self-awareness became key elements in facing life's ups and downs.

Reduced Anxiety and Improved Mood:

  • Self-care emerged as a powerful ally against anxiety, fostering less rage, more empathy, and healthier relationships. The journey led to a profound transformation in handling resentment and feeling unappreciated.

Self-Care Enhanced My Personal Growth and Relationships

Increased Self-Understanding:

  • Self-reflection and self-care became catalysts for a deeper understanding of myself. Treating my body with love, embracing challenges, and stepping out of my comfort zone were integral to personal growth.

Improved Relationships:

  • Self-care reshaped my relationships by empowering me to ask for what I need and set healthy boundaries. The awareness of thinking distortions and understanding my role in relationships led to decreased resentment of my partner and those around me.

Reflecting on this transformative journey, self-care has impacted my life in ten profound ways. As you consider your own practices, remember that small changes can lead to significant positive shifts.
